Saving money on London Fares:
There are many ways to save on return fares to London (fares as of 4/1/08):
One day travel card: £15 peak, £12 offpeak.
Travel £10 offpeak - buy a Hadley Wood return for £3, and all zones travelcard (ask for a Hadley Wood travelcard) for £7.
Downside is you have to get trains that stop at Hadley Wood.
Upside is that the travelcard is still valid after return trip -
unlike the Potters Bar Travelecard which is eaten by the gates on return.
Go to the theatre for £9 rtn Finsbury Park offpeak return £6, then £1.50 Oyster fare each way on Picadilly Line.
All Zones travel in London for £7: Buy an all zones travel card in newsagent for £7, then take 313 to Enfield Chase, 84 to New or High Barnet, or 298 to Cockfosters.
Travelling to a zone 2 station such as Canary Wharf? Buy a Finsbury Park return (£8.60 peak, £6 offpeak).
Then use oyster card for travel on Victoria and Jubilee lines, for £1 in each direction. Total cost £10.60 peak, £8 offpeak.

There are savings to be made on annual Travelcards. Potters Bar all zones travelcard = £2500
Season ticket PB to Oakleigh Park, £700, plus Z1-4 annual travelcard, £1384 = £2084!
Season ticket PB to Finsbury Park, £1200, then use Oyster card to Canary Wharf 220 returns, £440 = £1640
