For Immediate Release
PR 638 Facelift for station Improvements are to be made to the forecourt of Potters Bar station, thanks to partnership working which has secured the cash. Poor layout of the area has resulted in bad congestion, poor access for pedestrians, disabled users and cyclists and a bottleneck for the area. Hertsmere Borough Council has been working with Hertfordshire County Council, Potters Bar In Focus and First Capital Connect to come up with plans to improve and redevelop the forecourt. The new layout and enhanced facilities for bus passengers will improve the appearance of one of the key gateways to the town. Hertsmere is contributing £20,000 towards the cost which is estimated to amount to £350,000 in total and the Department for Transport has just confirmed its contribution of £150,000. Cllr John Donne, portfolio holder for transport, said: "This has long been a problem area for residents and commuters and the money will be used to greatly enhance the whole area. We have worked hard with other agencies to secure the funding and this is a good example of a partnership working which will truly benefit local people." The money will be used to improve kerbside access for bus users, regulate parking facilities, and improve on the visual amenity of the area. The groups are working together to agree on the best layout for the forecourt. It is hoped work will start sometime after April 2008. |
