2 new shops in Barnet Road now open.  "Secretnails American Nail Care"  (01707 661630) at 31 Barnet Road (where the tile shop used to be).  And at 24 Barnet Road (was Unwins) a "Cartridge World" . "Rethink, Refill and Recycle".  There is a website www.cartridgeworld.org with plenty of shops of which Potters Bar is one. (24/09/03) 
Matthews of Potters Bar Sofas and Chairs opens at 41 High St. A family manufacturer and retailer established in High Wycombe in 1958. It replaces Land of Leather. (2/9/03)
Help The Aged opens a new charity shop at 103 Darkes Lane.  Not to be confused with Age Concern, almost opposite.  It replaces Sketchley Cleaners. (18/08/03)
The Travel Centre in Southgate Rd. Another great Potters Bar facility closed. The Travel Centre must have been there for at least 30 years. Killed off by us using the internet to buy our tickets, and I suspect by the buying power of the travel agent chains. (18/08/03)

Phoenix is the new name of the locksmiths at 29 High St. Window posters point out that it is under new management from the previous Aaron Locksmiths who were featured in the television programme "Rogue Traders".  Since first publishing this item, even Aaron's website (www.locksmith.gbr.st), seems to have gone.(30/6/03)
