British Red Cross Society (Hertfordshire)
Red Cross members are trained in first aid from basic life saving skills to ambulance aid, and provide cover for public events of all kinds. The Red Cross also offers training to the public and First Aid at Work training for companies and organisations (recognised by the HSE).
In addition to this the Red Cross runs a number of depots offering the short term loan of medical items such as wheelchairs, commodes and walking aids. The Organisation also provides transport and escort services for people who are unable to use public transport to medical and other appointments. Further details on these services are available on our website.
Red Cross members give valuable therapeutic care such as hand and neck massage to people with life-threatening conditions to soothe and relax them and a cosmetic camouflage service for skin defects is available by doctor's referral.
In collaboration with Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies throughout the world, the organisation can help to reunite family members separated by war or civil conflict and can deliver messages for people in areas where the infrastructure no longer operates for the same reasons.
There are opportunities to volunteer throughout the country in providing the above services or participating in fundraising activities like Red Cross Week, or the Open Gardens Scheme. There is also a Red Cross shop in Berkhamsted.
